A good reference point on how to add accessibility information to HTML elements using the Accessible Rich Internet Applications specification [WAI-ARIA-1.1], which defines a way to make Web content and Web applications more accessible to people with disabilities.
Not everyones cup of tea but a good bookmark for reference especially if you are not going to be using some of the newer HTML5 elements in your mark up.
Also another good point is some of the HTML5 elements reneder some of the ARIA attributes automatically.
